My Thoughts on Lemon Water
Have you ever wondered what the benefits of citrus-infused water are? This one is dedicated to my dad, who drinks warm lemon water religiously in the morning for the health benefits. While this hasn’t been extensively researched yet, here’s what we know:
Fact: It’s naturally flavored! Which helps some people drink more water, and stay hydrated.
Fact: It’s a good source of Vitamin C! Vitamin C can help boost iron absorption in the body!
Fact: It's a great source of antioxidants.
Fact: It can be a great alternative to sugary beverages such as juice, soda, or sports drinks.
Myth: It “detoxes” or “cleanses” your body. Your body cleanses out toxins on its own, and there’s no way to internally cleanse your body or organs.
Myth: It boosts metabolisms. Your body won’t burn calories at a faster rate because you drink lemon water! Most metabolism-boosting effects are temporary, and this can only be achieved through a balanced diet and exercise.
Myth: It helps balance your pH levels to benefit your overall health. Nothing you ingest will make a drastic difference in your pH levels, and your body has that under control.
Myth: It boosts your immunity: While this isn’t entirely false, you need between 75mg and 90mg of vitamin C to keep your immune system strong. A lemon will only provide about 20mg of vitamin C.
